"Tilly" was our first
show dog, our first CSPCA Champion, and our first love.
Other exhibitors used to smile
as Roy and Tilly sat and waited their turn to show. Tilly, on Roy's lap, with her
arms around his neck just quietly sitting there.
Tilly loved to go to shows and
she showed like a veteran, but she had this habit of keeping her eyes closed while in the
ring. She would stand there - still like stone, with her eyes closed.... The
day she finished, Judge Mrs. Boboff looked at her and looked at her. Finally the
Judge said to Tilly, "If you would just open your eyes, I would give it to you".
Tilly opened her eyes and looked at the Judge - and she became a Champion.
Tilly died in the Fall of 1997,
at 8 years of age from Mass Cell Cancer. The Magnolia tree planted in her honor
overlooks all she loved.
